McMaster Solar Car Project Info Sessions
The McMaster Solar Car Project is a multi-disciplinary project that builds and competes in solar vehicle races against other universities and also promotes green energy to the general public. With our primary goal being education of our team members and the public, the project is a great way to gain hands on experience in many areas. The team is open to all faculties and no prior experience is needed.

Next Monday and Wednesday evenings we will be holding info sessions for new members of the team. Here, we will introduce you to the various aspects of the project which you can become involved in, take you on a tour of our on-campus facilities, and more or less introduce you to the team. We have chosen two dates to better accommodate everyone's schedules, you need only attend one. Here are the essential details:

What: MSCP Info Sessions
Who: Anybody interested in the solar car project (you, and tell your friends to come too!)
When: Monday, September 26 and Wednesday, September 28 at 6:30 PM to approximately 8PM
Where: JHE 144
Why: Introduce you to the team, what we do, and how you can be involved. Give you a tour of our facilities, giving you a chance to get hands on with the project from the beginning.

You will also get a chance to sign up for our various sub-teams within the project so you can stay informed about upcoming workshops and meetings in your specific areas of interest. What are the sub-teams and what do they do you ask?

Structure: design and build the lightweight chassis and aerodynamic outer body of the car. Get experience with Kevlar and carbon fiber layups.

Dynamics: everything that makes the solar car a car (suspension, steering, brakes, wheels, tires, etc). Get hands on experience in the machine shop.

Electrical: the solar car is an electric car! Work with solar cells, high efficiency electric motors, lithium polymer batteries and all the circuitry that goes with it. Get experience with soldering, microcontroller programming, and so on.

Business: none of this is possible without cash to make it happen! Work on sponsorship, community outreach, team promotion, and race logistics. Promote green energy to the public, make contacts with large corporations, and gain experience in areas such as project management, advertising, and education.

If you cannot make either day, no worries. Just drop us a line at [email protected] to let us know which area(s) of the team you are most interested in and we will put you in contact with the right people. You can also get involved with our activities online with Facebook (McMaster Solar Car Project), twitter (@macsolarcar), or our new website which will be launched shortly.

Hope to see you there!
