ME 4Q03 Vibrations
Hi
Can anyone please give me a review about Mech Eng 4Q03 Mechanical Vibrations? Specially if you are a TRON and took it as an elective? I know its very late and I have to decide by tonight. I am really interested to take this course but just not sure how much assumed knowledge from other mechanical courses is required, especially since re prerequisite course was pretty much .. well.. useless, at least the year I took it.

Thanks a lot

It's basically mechanical component of 3DX4 on steroids. While the systems you are working with are more advanced (more degrees of freedom), the way they explain things there is actually more simplified than in 3DX4. What I mean by that is, in 3DX4 you use far more advanced ways of solving the systems than in 4Q03.

It's been a week, and so far I could follow the lectures pretty easily.

You need permission of the professor to take the course, doubt you can get it until the midnight.

I am registered for the course, and did go to the lectures. I was just looking at the "homework" he gave yesterday, and seemed like some of the equations or relations are assumed to be known. I have to drop either 4Q03 or 4B03 by tonight to make room for 4A03

Could you tell me what questions? If you have problems I could probably give you a solutions manual. Will make things so much easier for you. It's really no rocket science, just 3DX4 without applying Laplace.

Personally I would keep 4Q03. 4B03 reminds me of Mech Eng 2C04, which was a pretty useless course as you have no knowledge of control systems in your second year. While in fourth year you can probably make something solid, 4B03 did appear to give very little freedom to students with their design for the project, or at least that's what I got from the course outline.

Also 4B03 is just too general, while 4Q03 will give you knowledge needed to find a position in automotive industry (and others similar to it), which just makes you so much more competitive on the job market.

I do have the solution manual. Just wanted a perspective from someone who has already done the course. It does seem like 3DX4, but in 3DX4 we had all the basic knowledge from the 5 electrical courses where in this course, we do have to look up some relations (Like I in 1.11). I know these are easy to look up and learn, just wanted to know if it becomes a pain later on. Just want to make sure that it doesn't tank my grades to the point that I regret not taking a totally-uninteresting-but-good-grade-giver course like 4B

Oh that, I believe we did it in 2P04, but it's not the point of this course. I do this course is definitely is the most useful of the 2.

By the way, I should probably mention that during the last quiz, I was marking work of a mech eng student, and he also had no fkn clue about those values, either he forgot them or didn't know, it doesn't matter. This course will help you learn and apply all that.
