Minor in Finance
Hi,

I’m in second year, and will be hopefully majoring in economics by the end of this year. I’m very interested in the Finance Minor that the business school offers. It says that they only take 30 people each year. Anyone have an idea of how hard it is to get into this? Do you need very high marks? You also need to submit an application, where do I pick this up?

Thanks in advance!

That very odd, doing a minor shouldn't require you to apply for the program. You should be able to take the courses required for the minor and then declare it when you graduate.

Commerce is different. You won't be able to get into any of the classes unless they have authorized you to.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense now.

I don't know the exact place, but on the website it says it's in DSB, around the low 100s. (http://www.degroote.mcmaster .ca/about/contacts.html)

When you walk into DSB, if you're walking in from the Arts quad entrance, just turn right and go through the door right there.

Or just ask anyone inside DSB and they will point you in the right direction.

Thanks. I'm in first year commerce, and I like economics a lot. I might do the same thing John is doing, majoring in economics, and minoring in finance OR I might just minor in it. Not sure yet.

Either is probably good. I'm personally doing Commerce with a minor in econ, although you probably already figured that out from my signature.

Only 30 ppl get accepted to Finance Minor each year, so I would keep that in consideration.

Just to point out...

According to the link below, in term of business related programs, people with just an Economics degree make more money compared to people in other areas of business such as finance, accounting, etc.

Majoring in econ, and minoring in finance OR staying in commerce, and minoring in economics would be both good ideas. I'm planning on minoring in econ.
