Mohawk 1Z03

2009-2010 with Tom Deer

Course breakdown:

15% attendance
25% midterm
25% presentation
35% final

Mohawk is NOT an easy language to learn. At all. However, this course covers very rudimentary basics, and at a good pace, so you should have the ability to do well.

Midterm was very fair; nothing so hard you wanted to cry. Presentation was 3-5 minutes in Mohawk. Final exam was similar to the midterm but with a cheat sheet.

Cool stuff we did: played with snow snakes, learned some songs, had a huge potluck.

i really liked this course - it kept me sane this semester. ima and connie are great; they are very supportive teachers. I encourage everyone who has an interest in learning the kanienkehaka (mohawk) language to take this course ... don't let the fact that you might not have any experience in it or related languages deter you from taking the course because the class is taught at a level that is appropriate for beginners. However, you will be surprised at how much you learn in just one short term.
