mondays/fridays off
I know a lot of people in university who have mondays or fridays completely off..so a long weekend. Im guessing this has to do with how you pick your timetable. What are the chances of being able to do that?

You must qualify in one of the following conditions to do that:
a) You're only here as a part-time student
b) You're a grad student
c) You're pursuing an incredibly useless degree

Well you can't always control that. The fewer courses you have, the more likely you are to do that. Otherwise you might just be stuck with three very long days. Also if you don't have labs and/or your classes only run twice a week and you take night classes, you can increase the likelihood of doing that, but once again it's really hard to say because it depends on how the Registrar schedules classes.

If you're going into engineering or science then it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get a full day off.. the least I've ever had was 3 classes in a day.

I've had a Friday off on one semester.
It all comes down to the courses you pick.
It's also very unlikely that you'll get it in first year.

It's pretty unlikely, especially in first and second year. Even if you do manage to get a day off, it probably means you'll have a nightclass or two.

I had friday's off last term. :3
and I ALMOST have friday's off this term, as well, except for one class.. =/
Depends on your courses, some only have ONE core, and the lecture may be on Friday, etc.

I was in life sci first year and I had Fridays off first semester. Now I'm in second year biopsych and I have Tuesdays off this semester. It just depends on what you have to take and end up taking and which cores you can get into etc... I think I just got lucky but it is possible.

I *almost* had every other Tuesday off in first year first semester. Chem lab every other week, and a math class at 8:30 AM. You can imagine how often I went to that math class  .

It just involves a lot of planning.
For instance, I was reluctant to take some courses this year because I commute and I'd rather have the option of skipping a Friday here and there when I get sick. But if there was a certain course that I absolutely loved, then I'd go for it.
In the long run, you should do what makes you happy - always. It'll work out better in the end. (And by that, I mean an academic course of study. Nothing illegal)
If you have first year Chem though, I would strongly advise trying to pick courses that have a lighter Friday. Chem midterms and Physics 1B03 midterms are almost always on Fridays.
So are some Bio's.

My 4th year courses each have a 3 hour lecture once a week. It was really easy to get Mondays and Fridays off.

I have to disagree with most of the posts in this thread. I am not a part-time student, I am not a grad student, and I am not pursuing an incredibly useless degree (unless you would classify Life Sci as an incredibly useless degree), yet I have managed to get Fridays off for one term each year. I actually think that it is easier to get a day off in first year because you can choose between 2-3 core lectures. You just need to choose your electives carefully and spend a lot of time organizing your classes.

Oh, I misread. I thought the OP wanted Mondays AND Fridays off. lol
Ya, getting one or the other is pretty rare, but still possible.
