MSU Awards Committee Seats open!

Contribute to the McMaster Community by getting involved on an MSU Award Committee!

Each year, the McMaster Students Union honours the contributions of members of the McMaster Community by issuing a variety of awards, including those listed below. The selection committees for each of these awards, which determines who is given the awards each year, currently have seats open for MSU members-at-large. That means you!

Honour M Award Committee (1 seat)
The Honour M, the highest award that the McMaster Students Union (MSU) bestows, has been presented annually since 1932 in recognition of outstanding leadership, volunteer service, contribution and/or special achievement in extra-curricular activities. Recipients of the award are admitted to the McMaster Honour Society. (More Information)

MSU Merit Scholarschip Award Committee (1 seat)
The MSU Merit Scholarship Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding and valuable service to university, student, or residence governments, departments, clubs, societies, charities, or athletics. Recipients of the award receive a $500 scholarship in one of two categories: single-year contribution, or overall achievement. Each candidate is only eligible to receive the award once in each category, and no candidate may receive an award in both categories in the same year. (More Information)

J. Lynn Watson Award Committee (1 seat)
The J. Lynn Watson Award for Community Service has been presented annually since 1983 by the McMaster Students Union and the Inter-Residence Council to the campus group that has made the greatest one-year contribution to charitable giving. (More Information)

MSU Spirit Award Committee (1 seat)
The MSU Spirit Award is presented annually to the campus group that has demonstrated superior spirit. Barring special circumstances, no more than one (1) award is normally granted each year. (More Information)

Elections for these committee seats will take place on Sunday, January 10 at the next SRA meeting (6:30 PM, Council Chambers). If you’d like to be nominated, be sure to contact the MSU Speaker (Naheed Yaqubian at [email protected] ca), any of the SRA Caucus Leaders (contact info found here). Also contact us if have any questions about the award committees or how the election process works - we’re happy to help however we can.
