MSU General Assembly
March 19th @ 1-3 PM in Quarters
The General Assembly (GA) of the MSU, is a place where the business of students is brought before an open and public session, where individuals can have any issue(s) addressed and even have binding motions passed on the union. GA is intended to bring the functioning of student government to the masses. Although SRA meetings are always open, public sessions, GA provides an added opportunity for students to engage their student leadership, as well as their peers, in debate about any matter of interest to them personally, or the student body at large.
This year, the MSU General Assembly will be held on March 19th, from 1pm until 3pm in Quarters. As proven in GA’s past, Quarters will provide an ideal location to discuss the matters of the assembly in a venue large enough to facilitate quorum. With quorum, (3% of the student population or approximately 600 full-time undergraduate students), motions from a GA that pass, are binding on the union. Therefore, GA is an opportunity for the student body to direct the actions of the MSU on any matter of importance.
At the General Assembly, there will be discussion on any issues or business that MSU members at large (i.e. the student of McMaster University) wish to have heard. Come to this forum and have your opinion heeded on any matter related to the MSU. How are your student services being run? What advocacy work would you like to see? In what areas should the MSU better lobby the University administration?
Or perhaps you are concerned with matters relating to:
- Quality of education
- Quarters
- HSR Transportation
- Students Fees
- Student Housing
Come prepared with an agenda, or simply come to learn more about your student government. All are welcome and all are highly encouraged to participate. New this year, students may pre-submit motions to be heard at the General Assembly. Visit msu.mcmaster.ca and search Student Government / SRA to find the MSU General Assembly page.
