How much do you pay for your Rent?
I made a post before about a room and asking if it was too expensive. I live in Westdale and I am living in a home owned by my relative. I do not pay rent, but I am in charge of renting the rooms out. I just want to note that if you do check my previous post about the room, it fits about 8 beds and not 4. That was a typo.
My friends pay for $450 per month with utilites+internet included but they have no lease contract so they can come and go as they please. Their rooms are fairly large with a walk in closet and the house has 3 washrooms so only 2 people really share one washroom. The house is roughly 10 mins walk to McMaster and a 2mins walk to two different bus stops. Also, the house is in a very quiet residential area.
So, how much do you pay and where do you live (please just state area)? I just want to get a good idea of how much is too much or too less because my relative is unsure of a good range since they are not familiar to Hamilton.
Also, please indicate how many people are living in the house and which floor you are on. How many share the washroom or kitchen? Are your utilities included? What is the walking distance to buy groceries and bus stop?
Thanks, and I appreciate your replies.

I don't live off campus but maybe you could check out the classifieds section here http://macoffcampus.mcmaster .ca/cl...ex.php?catid=2
Just do an advanced search looking for a house similar to yours and see how they price it.

I live off campus:
the layout of the house is like this:
4 levels (basement, main, 2nd floor, extended attic) and 4, 2, 2, 4 bedrooms on each respective level.
there are 4 washrooms (one on each) and 4 kitchens (one on each).
The rooms are fairly big, each with a closet.
I pay $330 + utilities + internet bill.
I live on the highest level. There are 12 people living in total. The walking distance from this house to Fortinos is about 700 m, and its a 5 min walk to Mac. The house is less than 1 min walk to busstops.

^^ thats a huge place...
mine on the other hand is a small house (5ppl total)..
- 3 ppl main, 2 ppl basement with seperate entrance
- kitchens and full 3 piece washroom on both floors
- rooms are quite large each with a decent to large sized closet
* mine has a fireplace, 2 doors (one to kitchen, one to entrance),
- the place was also newly renovated last year with new tiling, bathroom, kitchen and there is also a living room
- the place is maybe 2 min from fortinos and 8 min to mac
rent = 380 for summer months, 420 for the rest of the year
oh and rent is based on the room, so larger rooms cost more than smaller, and main floor more than basement. mine is the largest and the smallest i believe goes for 400 for winter months not sure about summer.

The house I'm in is separated by floors. There's a main front door and then each floor has their own door, and all the back entrances are separate. There are 2 people in the basement, 3 on main, 3 on top, shared kitchen and bathroom per floor. I'm on the main floor.
It's about 10mins to the edge of campus, 5mins to Fortinos. The nearest bus stop is ~2mins away.
I pay $415, includes utilities, internet, and furniture. It's a good sized room with a closet.

Theres a full bath in the basement and on the main floor, and a half bath on the 2nd floor. My room is one of the smaller rooms, but I can fit a queen bed, dresser, and desk in it comfortably. main/dundurn. dundurn student housing. 425+75 util fee (flat for this company) live literally across the street from the dundurn plaza. rooms about 11x11 feet and can fit like 2.5 queens. the utils are abit more expensive since every1 gets own fridge in their room and housekeeping to clean the floors/kitchen every week.
I live on the main floor. my room price = same as upstairs except the lragest rooms. basement rooms are like minus 20-40 dollars. the house is currently filled with 10 ppl total. Washrooms is by level 4,2,4 but we can use whichever we want. got a double kitchen in the sense 2 stoves/whatever. Gotta bring ur own appliances (toaster, microwave)

That's why I left after a year. I was lucky that I was able to change my lease from 12 to 8 months, when they still allowed 8 month leases about a year ago.
