You can take the GO Bus from McMaster to Aldershot and then take the train to Union Station.

Meh -- I find it's easier and sometimes faster to take a city transit bus downtown to the Hamilton GO station, and then take the QEW express that goes straight to Toronto. If you're going to a concert, you'll never see major traffic problems around that time of day (going towards Toronto) and it's about 45 minutes.

Taking the QEW Express from either King and Dundurn or the Hamilton GO Station is definitely faster most of the time, but during rush hour its faster to take the train from Aldershot.

I actually disagree. I find rush hour to not be that bad going eastbound on the QEW, once you're past the western part of Burlington, which you have to go through anyway if you take the bus from McMaster. Traffic on the 403/QEW around that time is only really bad going Westbound, and when it's bad it's incredibly bad.

Westbound during rush hour is definitely worse >.<
I've still found the train to be faster during rush hour, but maybe it was just bad luck with the amount of traffic on the QEW.

It's pretty cheap, it's about $7.15 or something like that. $7.something, it's not expensive at all. You can also save a couple bucks sometimes if you ask for a one-way ticket to a place closer than Union Station (ie, last year sometimes I got a one-way ticket to Aldershot, then just stayed on the bus to Union. It doesn't work though if you're getting on the QEW Express though since it doesn't stop before Union.)

It's the same price as the QEW.

It's actually 7.85$ but that's with the 10-ticket ride. It costs 8 something now. I wouldn't recommend purchasing a shorter ride, they do check tickets and the fine is like 500$.

You could save money by getting off at Mimico or The Ex and taking TTC to the venue. Could take a bit longer, and I don't think it'll save too much, but it's definitely something to think about.
And a shame you can't make it, Phil. Perhaps another show later in the year? I'm hopeful another good and cheap show rolls by by the end of the year and, if not by then, at least throughout the winter term.

oh yeah definitely another show if i'm not busy. I just want to know if the go system can take me to and from toronto. I think concerts have to end at 11PM (a by-law or something) so I hope the train can still take me to Hamilton after 11PM.

Concerts? Ending at 11? Most ones at the Opera House end by midnight. And yes, GO can get you back to Hamilton. Last train out is at 12:40~, and the last bus is at 1:30. The last bus to Mac directly by GO is coupled with the 9:43 train out of Union.
Basically, you can get back to Hamilton, but only downtown. Unless you walk, cab, or somehow find a HSR bus to take. I'm not very familiar with the HSR schedules, so I don't know when they last run.
And in all curiosity, by your name, are you Quebecois?

The QEW express stops at Columbia College which is like 10-15 minutes walk from McMaster.

Right. Forgot about the QEW Express. The bus that meets the train also makes that same stop.
Probably best to catch the QEW Express if you want to make it back sooner. The bus generally tends to be faster than the train.
