I did! I went with Atticus. Thanks for the idea, Aelya!
Good choice. So when is the pics coming?
I got really curious and ended up researching on ferrets as pet. It does seems like they like to spray their smell around. Did you get the smell gland remove? What does it smell like exactly? Can I come over one day to see before possibly getting one?

The scent glands get removed around the same time you neuter them. The one I bought was already de-scented. It has a musky smell that doesn't go away despite that, but it isn't anything overwhelming.

Musky? Hmm. I can't comprehend that in my head.

It's not bad, really, and it's only noticeable if he's really close. He was climbing on my shoulder today and I smelled him, but I haven't really noticed it other than that.

How old is he? You mentioned that he is already "fixed" which indicate he must be several months old right? 7 or 8 months?
I'm interested in why you end up picking ferret as a pet, if you don't mind sharing.

I was just going to edit that he actually needs to be neutered, haha. He is descented, though. That can be done at 6 weeks, but sometimes it needs to get redone apparently (sayeth the vet). The one I was looking into getting was neutered, but it got an intestinal infection and was no longer available. I think it died, but the store owner was too nice to tell me.
So I went for the younger one, which is not neutered. I can't get it neutered till he's 4 months old, I don't think.
A friend of mine from high school had ferrets and they were excellent, but I didn't want to get one before university because I obviously couldn't have it in residence. This year my housemates were against it, but next year I'm moving and my housemates in my new house have weird pets of their own. But I couldn't wait till May, so I told my housemates to suck it and got one early.

What about ferrets that were excellent? You had experience with cat and dog, yet you still went with ferret. That is what I am interested in.
Weird pets? Like what? Don't tell me its snakes....

Nah, one has a chinchilla and another has a frilled lizard.
They're really playful and pretty cuddly. Atticus has fallen asleep cuddled up to me twice today - adorable. They're pretty high-maintenance, but I like that. My cats at home seem to require zero human contact, and I never see them, so it's easy to forget they exist (even the one that looks like a reptile). The dog's cool, but I wanted something a little more unique.

That is cute.
What type of activities have you done with Atticus so far? You know how dogs have fetch and cats have those balls...?
I read that ferrets like to get into everything including clothes on the floor. Is that what you do? Just leave stuff on the floor for it to play around with?

He has toys that he plays with a lot. He also seems to like being under a blanket and chasing anything moving around on top. I was doing homework on my bed and he snuck under a quilt without me noticing, so when I put my hand down beside me on the quilt he attacked it from under the blanket. So now when he goes under a quilt (which he's done a few times today) I drag something on top and watch him freak out.
He also seems to like batting at my hair. I put it up while I was doing the aforementioned homework, and I had to take it back down because he kept hitting it every time I moved.
He has a purple chew toy that he seems to like a lot. I'm pretty worried about him chewing anything else, because they can be pretty destructive.

Do you let him roam around the room freely? Or do you caged him up and only let him out 4 hours a day when you are home?
Ferrets does sound like a interesting pet. One thing I can't get over is how much they look like a rodent. HEHE.
Oh and does your Atticus sleep like this one does? Seems a good pet for noisy environment.

I let him roam around, but only when I'm home. They're really prone to intestinal infections, so on top of how destructive he could be to my stuff, he can also get himself pretty sick if I let him out and he starts chewing/eating things. During the day my classes are somewhat split up, so hopefully he won't be alone for really long periods. My only concern is during the nighttime, because he's essentially alone for 8 hours. He's sleeping currently, and apparently they're pretty good at adapting to the sleep schedules of their owners, so I'm thinking that won't be a problem. His cage is 3 stories, so hopefully he has enough room to roam when I can't be there to let him out.
