My teacher is Colevecchia and I've heard from many people that I don't need to read the book because all the exam content is up on the slides and what she discusses in class.
Opinions on this from students who have taken this course before? Did you read the book and what mark did you get in the class?

You've obviously already heard from people who have taken the course with her before, since you said that many people have told you that exam content is from what she discusses in class. You should keep in mind though that there is a very loose association between reading the textbook and the final grade, for any course. This is because people learn differently--for some, even though all the info tested is in the slides, reading the textbook is extremely helpful and crucial to success. For other people, they can read the textbook, but don't really take anything out of it, so even though they read the book, it doesn't help them at all--that applies regardless of whether or not questions are taken directly out of the textbook.
Your prof will tell you if the readings are testable or not. Either way, it can't hurt to do them and see whether or not it works for you.
