It's a really cheap compass, nothing fancy. It's a compass that you can clip to your bag. It's small.

IIRC it's one of the easier ones to use. Just a dial, no needle.

How much do those nicer wall calendars from Titles cost? I always see them around at friends places, but I never got around to buying one. I've always wanted one LOL.
Are they the laminated type ones that you can write and erase on?

The ones at Titles were $9.99. They were the laminated ones too, that you can write on, with no dates written on it. So you re-use if for different months . I believe a marker came with it too, not too sure though

Not sure if anyone has said this seeing as I am lazy and didn't bother to read most of the thread but...
New Textbooks. Go used or don't go at all.
Recommended textbooks are usually a waste of money. "Required" textbooks may also be a waste of money, so attend the class for a week or two before making the investment.
For used books you can try:
1. Macinsiders' Marketplace
2. Mac-central.com
3. Undercovers
4. Titles Classifieds ( http://icbb.sellmytextbooks. org/members/17/)
5. Online - abebooks.com, ebay.ca, amazon.ca etc. (I've never done it but you can try)
Keep on rockin,
Sean

Some of those tips were mentionned at Welcome Day sessions. Thanks! I'll be sure to check that before spending $500+ per term XD

If your textbook is a book (a novel for example) check out Chapters' listing for books. I had to buy nine books for one of my English classes last year, and buying the books through Chapters saved me close to $100.
There are other non-novel books that would work too: I guess what I'm basically trying to say is anything that isn't your standard textbook is worth a try from a bookstore (I got a bunch of Indigenous Studies texts from there too).

Interesting post Nicole! Great to see a list of things that students can get for free..
USB keys are definitely not hard to come by around welcome week/sidewalk sale/basically any credit card signup booth. If you do happen to signup for the McMaster card then you also get a free SPC membership, so getting the SPC card is not necessary.

This is offtopic, but Jason McGuirk, your avatar is awesome. Home Movies was an amazing show. The final episode always brings a tear to my eye. I can barely remember many of the episodes, but the camera falling out of the car. A beautiful end.

That show was alright. I miss the good ol' days when Teletoon used to play all those shows like Undergrads, Mission Hill, Clone High, and the Oblongs, even though they did tend to air the same few episodes over and over again for years :p.
Now all they ever play is the same old movies a million times. I must have seen Mars Attacks at least 5 times by now...

Yea, Home Movies has a lot of subtly beautiful moments. Just off the top of my head: the end of class trip on the bus and the end of the party where they are walking into the sunset.
Anyways, all the episodes are on youtube if you are feeling nostalgic.
