Peer support meeting for students with mental health/psychiatric disabilities

Psyching Up For School / Welcome - (Eek? Nah!) - to Peer Support (Sept 20 @ Mac)

What? Mad Students Society's September 2012 Hamilton peer support meeting
  When? Thursday, September 20 from 4:30 - 6:30pm
Where? McMaster University. Email [email protected] ciety.com for details.
Who? Students (from any college, university, or adult education program) with lived experience of psychiatric systems, madness, mental illness, mental health disabilities, etc.

How do we as Mad students or students labelled with mental health disabilities psych up for the start of a new school year (and, for some, a new school)? - Perhaps you’ve acquired documentation from your shrink or disability advisor? (Or are you ditching them this year?)
 - Maybe you’re arranging accommodations with professors?
 - Are you stocking up on Ativan, Red Bull, St. John’s Wort, chocolate, sleep, sun, sex, or time with friends?
Let’s psych up together by sharing our experiences and supporting each other as peers.

Not in school this term but planning to return? Come chill and chat about whatever else you’re psyching up for or psyching out about.

Can’t make the meeting? Looking for other support? Join our active, private, email discussion listserv to continue this and other conversations. We’ll meet again in October.

Questions? Directions? For further info, location details, or to join the listserv, email Elizabeth and Alisa at [email protected] ciety.com.

More about us: Mad Students Society (MSS), created in 2005, is a community of students who are attending or planning to attend post-secondary or adult education institutions and have personal past/present experiences with psychiatric/mental health systems. We meet monthly (in downtown Toronto, North York, and Hamilton) and communicate through an email listserv to support each other, discover tools for self-advocacy, and connect with our history and broader social movements. Visit our website at www.madstudentsociety .com.

Spread the word! Share the event on Facebook: www.facebook.com/events/336976089721524. Email for other ways to support MSS.
