Philos 1C03 Philosophy in Literature
Hi,

I just managed to switch into Philos 1C03 and was wondering if anyone had already taken it and had some insight on the course. From what I can tell, there aren't many student opinions about what the course is like on the Internet.

I enjoyed this course quite a bit. Dr. Sassen's lectures weren't terribly interesting, and she basically just read off her slides, but I really liked the novels we read and I thought the tutorials were great (though I suppose it depends on your TA).

The course consisted of:
- 3 essays (20% each)
- Tutorial participation (10%)
- Final exam (30%, 10 short answer + 2 essays)

We read a bunch of excerpts from different philosophers' works (e.g. Plato's Republic) as well as:
- The Metamorphosis, by Kafka
- Frankenstein, by Shelley
- Blindness, by Saramago

...though some of the novels might change from year to year.
