It's funny when people phish through snail mail. I got one saying that I have won 6.7 million euros and that I need to give them a deposit of 10% of that amount in order to receive. I decided to play along, knowing it was fake. Reading along, they have a man's signature, and he signs as the director of the lotteries in Spain. His signature was stretched terribly, being pixelized and too wide.
The closest thing to legitimacy in that letter was that the mailing address says it's from Spain, though I am still skeptic about that. If it were from Spain, that's pretty desperate of them. lol

I can't imagine why you guy would give out the email address you gave to your bank to your friends and other shady sites!
secondly, there was a time when email companies hadn't done anything to counter phishing. you could email them from any email address you wanted and they wouldn't be detected as fake.
Now...phishing is just a dying breed because not many people believe stuff.
One technique that still works fine, though, is adding someone on IM. sending them a link. The link opens a hotmail sign in page, tell them it's a "new" hotmail security feature 
They'll enter the password and go to whichever site you wanted them to really see
