rofl. Didn't even know there was a student discount. It's probably still OP though.

Regularly its $1799 USD and for students its $399 USD for Design Premium.
You can get just Photoshop CS4 Extended for $199.
I also conveniently won a $75 Titles giftcard just after I ordered it from Titles so I only ended up paying $388 total.

I see where you are comign from: If you're in the program, it's not hard to justify buying... If you make some art in a non-licensed version, and your art is recognized, you have to send it around, and then licences can be tracked. That's not good

Yeah I've definitely downloaded before, prior to University and used Photoshop that way for many years but I felt I could justify the purchase.
You may not have ever had problems with a non-legit version before but it happens and that would not be ideal if I was already at home with no way to get back to the lab at night and had a project due.

I really wish adobe would clean up their freakin' code rather than release a new version every 18 months with no real substantial updates.

One of the benefits of piracy for a lot of companies is that they get people used to software they can't afford or justify a purchase of. When these people are finally able to justify/afford the software they end up shelling out money for the software they're familiar with. There's a reason GIMP and OpenOffice aren't very popular even though both are free and about as good as Photoshop and MS Office respectively.

That's a good point, BJ.
For people like me though, who do it as nothing but a hobby, and I can get it for free without it being traced, it's not worth it to shell out the money. I mean let's face it, I've been downloading pirated software since I was 11.
Now, if I decide to do this a profession where my entire life will be dedicated to photoshop, then I'd probably buy it.
But till then...
I'm good being a freeloader. ;D

OpenOffice kind of sucks in my opinion... it's like MS Office minus 5 years.

Can't wait for CS5, because CS4 will come down in price. Last year, I got CS3 Web for $50 at Titles.
