Is there a disadvantage in taking 1l03 instead of 1b03,
and vise versa?

Most, if not all, med school require one full year of physics with a lab component. Physics 1L03 does not have a lab component so you couldn’t use it to fulfill your physics requirement for med school. The two physics courses you need for med school are: physics 1B03 and physics 1BB3/1BA3. These three physics courses have lab components and are suggested by the Faculty of Science if you are planning to apply to med school (I had the same question last year
).
Like the other users, my recommendation would be to just take physics 1B03. If you already have grade 12 physics (even if it is a summer school credit), you are pretty much prepared for the course. If I remember correctly, the first part of physics 1B03 was very straightforward (kinetic, one particle motion). If you keep up with the readings, do the practise problems and CAPA questions and get help when needed, you will quickly begin to feel more comfortable with physics.
Hope that helps!
