I'm taking this class in Term 1. Apparently, the textbook for this class is Schaum's outline of college physics. Why doesn't the prof use a regular textbook?

If anything this is way cheaper than the 'regular' textbook they've used.

Yavin makes his own class notes and posts them online to supplement the textbook. The class notes plus your own lecture notes should be sufficient.
I used this book last year. I refer to is as "Physics for Dummies." It's okay, but I defiantly wish I had used the regular physics textbook. It doesn't have thorough explanations.
If you are planning to take the 2nd first year physics course, I would get the regular textbook anyways since I believe the same one is used.
