Physics 1E03 Summer School
I was wondering if taking Physics 1E03 in summer school would be better than taking it now and not doing as well with the courseload I have now. Also, does it affect my chances of getting into 2nd year?

It's easier in summer. I'd suggest you take it in summer if you're not comfortable now.

Getting into the program of your choice is based on point system. The lesser Units you take during the year, the higher your GPA will have to be to get into a program in the second year. So it can matter. However, if you think you're going to F or D this course, then you're probably better off taking it in summer rather than bringing down your average significantly.

there is no such thing as free choice in engineering. it is only a free choice if you have the required gpa. you still need to meet the gpa cutoffs for the programs. if you get a 5 gpa and the program requires 7 gpa, you dont get in even if it says you have a free choice. it is free choice if you have a high gpa.

But I do have free choice..... it even says on the letter of acceptance that I got in Grade 12. Like is this a sham by McMaster? On my letter it says I have a spot in a 2nd year program of my choice regardless of GPA (some exceptions of course). So.... I think there is free choice

meh double check with eng office or something. my roommate is an international student and it also said he had a free pass, but his gpa was bad in first year and he wasnt allowed in his program. he told me its only a free pass if you have the required gpa.

You have free choice for most programs. I believe Chem & Bio, Elec & Biomed, and Management/Society are exempt from free choice, however.

As per usual, Academic Advisors can help you with this.

mythbuster06 is correct. OP, if you have a free choice and if the program you want to get into is not Chem&Bio, Elec&Biomed or Management/Society, you should take Physics 1E03 in summer.

Once again, for a final confirmation contact the Undergrad advisor. Sally is helpful. But I'm very sure about the free choice option.
