Politics/World Issues forum?
I was just wondering if macinsiders ever considered creating a forum to discuss politics, world issues or religion etc.?

I think it might be a good way to encourage more use of the forums, as these subjects almost always encourage lively discussion!

With proper moderation to ensure no one is offended, I think it would a be a good way to encourage intelligent debate.

We've had some topics from those...topics and they've gotten a little bit out of hand.

We're not opposed to people starting up conversations regarding those topics, but I don't know if we will be creating a seperate sub-forum for them

The problem with intelligent debate is that everyone thinks his or her point of view is the intelligent one and that's how we get into flame wars or worse.

It's probably better for MacInsiders to stay out of that area.

We had an off-topic forum that was a place for any sort of non-mac discussion, which eventually was merged into this 'general' forum. Feel free to bring up topics in this general forum if you wish.

In the near future we may expand the forums to have some more non-Mac sub-forums such as politics, technology, movies/entertainment, music, etc. When we have our first general meeting in September we'll be sure to bring this up and see what everyone's thoughts are on it and if they'd use it. It all comes down to the demand for the new feature... if the members want it, we'll add it.
