lol I can understand this fear...

The problem with the public bathrooms that have the powerful flush is that if it gets clogged it will overflow A LOT and ruin your entire life...
I remember this happening at mac once when I was in ITB (cuz I thought they had relatively clean ladies bathrooms) but the person in the stall next to mine had a clogged toilet. Needless to say, the toilet immediately overflowed and tons of water came rushing out of the stall and nearly flooded the entire place... Luckly I was in the large stall and saved myself and my stuff from the toilet water.

Public bathrooms can be nightmarish.. lol

Does this happen a lot?

If no - Your fears are ill-founded.

If yes - Seek medical attention.

1) Flush the toilet before using it to check its working.

2) Change your diet (make it healthier if it is not healthy). Diet will influence the nature of your stool which in turn will determine the outcome of the toilet (whether its clogged or not)

For treating your phobia, the following physical changes should help: diet, exercise, yoga.

To change your phobia psychologically, I think that you are holding on to the embarrassed feeling from the wedding incident you mentioned. <-- My apologies if I am wrong for assuming this but I have some embarrassed memories that have scarred me and sort of created a phobia. The way I dealt with it was through forgiving myself and moving on.

Good luck

Any advice to help me overcome this is appreciated.
It's pretty crappy to live like this, and I don't want to hold this phobia with me forever.
I'm surprised no one has added this emoticon yet. Sorry, I just have to do this:
