Power went out in my room
So the power only went out in my room... happened when I turned on my hairdryer. But I have a surge protector. I tried tinkering with the power box thing, but it still won't come back on. D:

Any ideas while I wait for my landlord to return my call?

Umm there is this box thing somewhere in the house which houses all the switch thingies for all rooms. During a power surge that normally "trips"/turns off. You have to find that box and turn your room back on? Mine's in the basement.

p.s: I'm assuming the power box you tinkered with is not the main one :S My house has one on each floor then a main one in the basement :S

Look at the outlet you were using at the time - it might have a built -in breaker as well; you might need to reset it. (If it does, it's a red rectangle thingy between the two plugs). Check all the outlets in your area of the house, especially in the bathrooms - there MUST be such an outlet somewhere.
Also, you might have tripped more than one breaker if both the ceiling lights and the outlets have lost power. Go back to the breaker box and tinker again :-)

Is the power on in the rest of the house? if not, then find the main breaker and reset it. If yes, keep trying

We only have one power box and I tried resetting the red thing on the surge protector before I made this thread. Still not working.

This is seriously stupid. It's as dark as night in my room right now. ._.

This happened to me last year.. except the light was on in some rooms and not others.. yeah it was the power box. One switch had turned off (the one connected to my and a few other rooms.. we have weird wiring).

Yeah check if the power is off EVERYWHERE. If so, probably call your landlord...

Its possible that its a fuse, and not just a breaker. If it is, he'll need to replace it. if it's just a breaker though, either the wall outlet or the box will have a switch or button.

Go to the fuse box, see if one switch is the opposite of the other switches. If there is one, flick it back. If there isn't, yeah no idea.

there has got to be a main switch and a fuse/breaker box somewhere

find the breaker which is off and turn it on...and don't even plug the hairdryer in that room ever again coz the breaker rating of that room is probably low (that means the amount of current that your dryer needs is more than what the breaker can allow

if its a fuse, then you'll need to replace it (but i think they stopped using fuses ages ago)

if the breaker switch doesn't do anything then you'll def have to replace the fuse
