Progression of Halloween: Childhood to University
Progression of Halloween: Childhood to University
BY ALKA SOOD, MACINSIDERS
Halloween is fast approaching and I can’t help but be excited. I can only remember being this eager back in grade school when we got to wear our costumes to school, and talk about all the candy we planned to collect trick-or treating that night. In the following weeks, everyone would have some candy or a chocolate bar or perhaps a bag of chips in their lunch as evidence of this annual occasion we loved to celebrate.
Then something happened. We all went to high school and Halloween became highly overrated. We were too old to go trick-or-treating but not quite old enough to go out on the town and party it up. Halloween faded and fizzled to just another day on the calendar as we completed our years of high school.
Then, we got to university. I remember Halloween season in first year; I was more than a little surprised to see extensive decorations in places such as Commons and Le Piazza. Right from the beginning of October, there was much talk about plans for that night, and you can only imagine my surprise when some people once again wore Halloween costumes to class on the actual day.
And the day definitely lives up to its expectations. Halloween in university is probably the biggest celebration time, followed by St. Patrick’s Day (but that’s another story). It once again becomes cool to dress up and of course it’s a fantastic excuse to enjoy a little (or a lot) of chocolate. So, in the middle of midterm season, take this one night off and take a break to enjoy yourselves, hanging out with friends, giving out candy, partying it up, carving pumpkins and the list goes on. Because after all, Halloween only comes around once a year, and you can’t deny how much you love this holiday! =)

What about costumes?
Lim: Costumes = Cute
Age-->(0)
Lim: Costumes = Slutty
Age-->(infinity)
Sorry to be a downer, but I just hate when I see like 10000000 girls wearing their lingerie out like its a costume and thats ok. *rolls eyes*
Ive always loved halloween though - i went trick or treating all through highschool.

I hate the Halloween sluttiness too. I actually address it in an article that will be posted Wednesday.

well, speaking as a guy, i dont really mind the sluttiness... but i do appreciate real costumes better. and i'm just throwing this out there... mine rules. a lot.
although i disagree with halloween not being cool in high school. at mine we had costume competitions, halloween dances, and if you didn't dress up you were weird. it was an awesome school! so how many people usually dress up for classes?

What's the difference between Halloween sluttiness and the regular sluttiness that girls dress as every other weekend? They still look the same they do any other weekend, this time they've just added a little something else to make it more like 'dress up'.
