Psych 1X03: Need for a textbook?
I wanted to know if the web Module lectures by Dr. Kim was enough to get threw this course? I.e. to manage the quizzes, tutorials, tests and last but not least... EXAM?
Or must i read the textbook aswell? (Its more a custom courseware/Textbook)
Of course the text would give me a better understanding, but its just too much to read when u have other more demanding classes!
Micro Econ 1B03 for instance: never needed the textbook for that course!

If you're referring to the handbook or the e-book, both are completely useless IMO. The handbook is basically the slides from the online lectures in paper format, with space beside to make notes and some activities to help you study. I never opened it. The e-book is written by Dr. Kim and just goes into further detail about the concepts you learn in lecture. None of the material is testable.

I found the handbook useful because it was a good quick reference during tutorials and while studying, and the activities in it were helpful for getting a good grasp on the concepts.
The textbook, however, I found was a waste of money and time because it basically just covered the same material in more detail. There was nothing specifically in the text that was tested on that wasn't in the lecture material, and what was annoying about the text was that you had to access the internet to open it each time because it had to validate that you were the owner. It also expired at the end of the term. Needless to say, I didn't find it useful.

the old tests are never released because there's a limited question bank that they can use.
last year they did give us a few study aids so we could do them for practice, though, and we did some practice questions in tutorial.

this year dr kim changed this course completely, there is no midterm and more quizzes and there is a customized textbook for the course. I dunno if you want to listen to upper years cause the course has changed so much, maybe ask a first year in the course right now.

Yep, textbook is pretty much required. A lot of the questions come from it along with the web modules. Handbook, not so much if you can make your own notes.

1X03 is harder this year than it was last year, but that's mainly cause the new quiz questions are a harder than the midterm level questions last year. The students will probably do better since they have the chance to get better at writing the questions one 4% quiz at a time rather than bombing a 25% exam and then realizing the course might not be as easy as it seemed.

It'll be different from the quizzes, less focus on details, more focus on application. It kinda tests a different skillset.
