I've taken both and rather enjoyed psych 2H03 more, though I'm in psychology and am probably biased =p.
It really depends on the prof though, for psych I had Dr. Humphreys who was really fun.
Econ was pretty good too, I would say the tests for this class are a lot easier than the psych ones; though for psych she only took the best 4 out of 5 tests (including the exam)
In econ, she took the best 5 out of 8 assignments though...

I took psych fall winter 08/09 and econ in spring 09

another thing to note is that only 48 units of first year courses count towards completion of your degree [edit]

Econ 1B03 is a really easy class that doesn't require you to attend lectures (The prof has excellent power point notes and just reads off of them in class, so you can just read them and avoid class).

Of course, I still went to class even though it was totally pointless haha.

I suggest Econ 1B03. Although I've taken both Econ and the Psych 2H03 and liked 2H03 a lot more, I know several people who didn't like the subject matter. Econ 1B03 is pretty much about reading the book and doing the assignments/practice questions whereas psych 2H03 requires going to every class, taking notes, reading the text, and weekly discussions.

My professor for 2H03 was Dr. Watter, and he was the best professor I ever had in my 3 years at McMaster. Econ 1B03 was also fun, and 1BB3 as well, but 2H03 just seemed a lot more interesting to me. It was a very symbolic class that basically probed into the meaning of life and how our brains interpret it.

If you need more info, just message me.

i loved cognition with Dr. Watter
wish he was teaching some 3rd year classes.
ps. it's better to take electives of your own year, don't use up too many first year electives
