So we really don't need the textbook at all? I mean, I want to get at least a 10 or 11 in this course.

No, you don't need the textbook at all. I don't know anyone that used it last year. It's definitively possible to get a 10 in this course without the textbook.

I would imagine that upper year courses have their own textbooks so you probably don't need to worry about the 1X03 text.

Honestly, everything in 1X03 was very basic... nothing that couldn't be googled. I really don't think you'd need it.
