I just wanna ask if Psych 1XX3 next term is similar in difficulty to psych 1x03 or not ? Cause Im in psych 1x03 right now and no matter how hard i try, i can never seem to achieve the mark i want because his questions are ambiguous and extremely difficult.

Well, it depends. There is a lot more biology in it (neuroscience module), and evolution. You have a term paper worth 20% of the grade (well, at least we did), and that can go either way, too. I found it to be okay, though my grade did go down by a grade point.

They changed the course codes since I last took psych... So ill just tell you what I remember about both... The first psych I had to take was more focused on the bio side of things...ie) the eye, how light is processed by the eye, rods and cones, etc. neurons, synapses, myelin sheaths. all that stuff... that psych for me, who had never taken a bio in high school, was tough...
Second semester it was required to take the second psych (1aa3 when I took it)... That one was more social psych... touched upon emotion and was less bio based if i remember correctly..
So how well you do depends on what you are interested in and what your strengths are in...

I found the social psych easier in terms of content, but I ended up doing worse in it than the bio based semester one....
But this is what I tell everyone who is discouraged in first year psych right now... They make it hard on purpose! They have thousands of students right now taking psych classes and by second year, the program only admits a certain amount of students in. So naturally they are kindof trying to weed people out... I have heard that this years psych is ridiculously hard though, but if you stick with it, and meet the minimum requirement (i think its a 5 or 6) in psych, and can continue on, it gets better!!! Second year psych classes realllly open up and you get the choice of what direction you want to go in. Third year (I found) was even better... Just keep trying your best. It's going to be hard, especially in first year when you are still adjusting. But remember, it's not high school anymore and you shouldnt be/cant study the night before a test (even a quiz in this case) and expect to do well.
Just do what you can and study hard and dont screw around with your participation marks! those are easy easy marks that can, in this case, help you pass or contribute to a fail.

Sorry this message went on so long, I just dont like people getting discouraged from psych after having to take the brutal first year courses. But it does get better so use that as your motivation to study hard...

Psych 1X03 does seem to be a bit harder this year than in past years (though, going by the marks students are getting, not significantly harder).

If you're just having trouble with the quizzes, then the difficulty of Psych 1XX3 will depend on whether or not they keep the midterm (which they likely will from the looks of things). If you're having trouble with the content, then you should really consider talking to your TA or an Academic Advisor because first year psych is functionally a brief overview of what you'll be covering in any one of your upper year psych courses and you need to be able to handle it.

Neuroscience is more bio-y and answers are definitive. 1x03 is more ... social psch-y, so if you're having problems with ambiguousness, you might have an easier time in 1xx3

I liked both psychs, but I found 1XX3 easier because like people said, it's more biology based. You learn about the different parts of the brain and you go into the 5 different senses and how they work. If you're also taking Bio 1A03 this semester, there's some material repeated in 1XX3, which makes it easier too. The only "hard" part about 1XX3 IMO was the essay, but that really depends on your group members.
