Took this course a year ago with Dr Hill & Macri. There was a lot of material to memorize.. much more than the typical 2nd year bio courses. (Wouldn't compare it to Orgo or immuno though.. those courses were just.. crazy). I loved going to the lectures, the material always left me amazed and I guess that must've been why I did well on two midterms. Midterms were all MC, you had to think a bit.. like a clinical scientist. They weren't straight answers as I often found with 2nd year cell bio courses.
For example,
A, B and D are the symptoms for such and such a person. Blood levels for various compounds are given below. What would you diagnose this person with.
The answers were very similar and it was usually the case of one or two symptoms or the blood level of a certain compound that indicated the correct answer.
The exam was also MC. I didn't do as well, considering the amount of material to memorize, but still scored in the 70s. Overall, I'd say you can score a decent grade, but much unlikely to score an 11 or 12, considering the time you have to devote for other courses as well. The average for this course I'd assume is between 7.0 to 7.5 But the material is very useful and transferrable to upper year courses and careers related to clinical research.
Would strongly recommend this course for interest and gain of useful and relevant information and would not recommend if looking for an easy elective. There is a considerable amount of memorization/work you need to put in each night to make sure you're on top of lecture material.
EDIT: Forgot to mention; Hill & Macri did go over practice MC problems in lecture, which were very similar to the midterm questions. So you had sufficient prep for the style of questions. They also stressed on which topics/slides were important for the midterms.
