I think the reason Mac has specific recycling bins is that all of the recyclables have to be sorted now. I know someone said that Mac uses a private company, and doesn't deal with the city of Hamilton, but I've lived in Hamilton for a while and I know that's how it's usually done, so I assume they both use a similar way.

Some of them can only fit bottles because plastic and glass are supposed to go together in one bin, technically you can recycle the cardboard boxes but they just can't go in the same one. Same with newspapers/paper, there's other bins at Mac that have thin slots so you can only fit paper in them.

I thought you could put paper and cardboard in the same bin, since they're pretty much the same thing. I have no idea why Mac doesn't recycle cardboard, but they really should have a bin for it. There's so many boxes and paper cups that just get thrown in the garbage.

In the residences there's separate bins to sort cans/glass/plastic bottles, cardboard, and other paper, but not so much in the rest of the campus.
