I took the course in Winter 2015 with Professor LaRose.

The whole course is based around retelling of Great Books. The course looks at the Hindu Ramayana for the first half, and then the Buddha Biography for the second half. In each half, different tellings of each story are looked at.

There are many evaluations and readings in this course. You will not do well if you do not do most of the readings and attend lectures and tutorials.

Breakdown of evaluations (keep in mind this can change):

10%- 5 online quizzes
30%- Exam
10%- Tutorial (5% presentation 5% attendance)
30%- Term project
20%- 2 assignments (papers) worth 10% each

There is a lot of opportunity to do well in the course. The TAs are helpful, as is the professor.

I enjoyed the course since it was an elective for me, and I had taken classes with the professor previously and liked his teaching style. The stories are enjoyable and the discussion of the course takes a look at what influences the stories to be the way they are.
