Is Ryerson a legit school?
Sorry if that sounds like a weird question. I know it's a legit school, but how good is it?
I'm applying to Grad schools within the next few months, and I'm looking into Ryerson. But when I talk to people about it, half the people think it's a university, half the people think it's a college. It's making me a little weary. I've checked their website and everything seems fine. But I can't make up my mind on this.
Does anyone have any friends or know anyone that goes to Ryerson?

I know someone who goes to Ryerson. From what I've heard, Ryerson is known for being a journalism and business school. I don't know about its reputation in the sciences or engineering, but for Communication studies (esp journalism) and Commerce, it's a high-end school. Thier School of Management is located right on Bay Street, which is ideal for Canadian Business students.

Thanks! It's definately a university, correct? I had one friend tell me "It's part university, part college". I don't even know what to make of that.

One of my best friends is a Ryerson Comp Sci grad. It's definitely a university, and as Ben stated, known primarily for journalism. He's a high school teacher now, and is used to fielding questions about schools. If you want, I'll ask him if it's ok to e-mail him directly about it so you can find out from someone with first hand knowledge of the school.

My editor was a journalism grad (09) from there. And yes, it's a university. However, they have a more hands-on approach to learning in a lot of their programs, which is probably where the college stuff comes in.

Used to be Ryerson Polytechnic, somewhere in between college and university. Now it's a full University. That said, like any university it has strengths and weaknesses in different fields. I have a friend there for film and it's apparently quite good.

I have quite a number of friends at Ryerson. They also have decent business and engineering programs from what I have been told.

what my ryerson friend said in response to this:
Ryerson used to be a college.
It is now a university.
And it now has grad programs, some of which aren't available in any other universities in Canada (ie: Masters in Professional Communication)

I would think that it would have to be a "legit" school to be granted use of Maple Leaf Gardens: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=300652

Yea, it's a decent school They have pretty good nursing program. Their engineering isn't too bad. Their journalism and media is way up there though.
