Safety Goggles
Are the safety goggles sold at Titles the only kind we can use for labs? I found some cheaper safety goggles, not safety glasses at home depot and they said they had chemical splash and impact protection. Do you think I'd be fine using those instead?

As long as they cover your eyes have don't have any openings around (which is the definition of goggles) then they are fine.

Haha, hopefully I'll be allowed into my lab with non-Titles safety goggles.

They had a box of those safety goggles today infront on Mills, 1 for $2. Saw a lot of first years in shock since they bought em at Titles haha. They have them every year.

Just an FYI for incoming first years if they happen to stumble upon this thread: wait for the Lost and Found sale around second week of school!!! =P

ME TOO!!!
My housemates laugh at me...

For the goggles, it's hard to say for sure without seeing them, but if they have splash protection and FULLY cover your eyes on all sides you should be okay.
Ask yourself, if you were walking and someone else was walking towards you, and one/both of you had beakers of the dilute HCl you'll be using in the first lab, and you guys collided and the acid went everywhere, would your eyes be okay? If you can say with 100% certainty that your eyes would be fine, then the goggles are fine. If you have doubts, then either adjust the straps on the goggles to make them fit better, or buy new ones.
That's the scenario I'm going to envision when determining if people's eye protection is adequate...in a first-year lab, that's probably the most likely way something will get in your eyes.
