The Hamilton Mad Students Collective is hosting a screaming and flailing in the woods peer support escapade on Monday, August 11th from 5-7pm at McMaster University for Hamilton-area students (attending or planning to attend school anywhere -- not just at McMaster) who experience mental health concerns. Wear comfortable walking gear. There may be mud and bugs. If it is raining and too many of us are wearing white and flip flops/decide to avoid the woods, we will either split up or will have a rain party indoors where we will play a new board game we've acquired that's about escaping an institution:
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1...ns-broomsticks. This will help prepare us in case we get carried off to St. Joe's in the future for other less-wooded screaming/flailing/egg throwing episodes. Our office has recently acquired a kettle and tea supplies. So yay! To join the Hamilton Mad Students Society/meet with a member before the hike/get further details on this event, email Alise at
hamilton.mad.students @gmail.com.
Who? Students in the Hamilton-area from any college, university, or adult education course/program (and people planning to return to school) who personally experience psychiatric systems, madness, mental illness, mental health disability, emotional or spiritual distress, etc.
Can’t make the meeting? Looking for other support? Join our active email discussion listserv to continue this and other conversations. The listserv is a private place for members to talk about our lives, support each other, discuss ideas, share info/resources/events/news, and arrange spontaneous gatherings.
Questions? Directions? Nervous? Need Something? For further info, location details, to join the listserv, or if you have accommodation needs, want someone to meet you at the bus stop, or would like to chat with a member before the meeting, please email Alise at
