My roommate's gf bugged me for weeks to play this with them, and I kept putting it off. I played it for the first time last week (no expansions), and it's ****ing awesome. Cant wait to try an expansion. I may even buy it for them, just so I can play.

you can play online at http://games.asobrain.com/ but registration is closed atm. they have expansions and custom stuff.
so yeah, this post was completely useless |

no not really, its way more fun playing it physically then on a computer screen.........for one thing i know that when i play with my friends everyone gets so hyped and its just that much more fun playing with actual ppl there with u.....i would think id be really boring online

The only problem with expansions is that they do literally add more dimensions to the game. While this is fantastic, it makes going back to Vanilla Catan all that much tougher.
You've gotta try Cities and Knights (upgrades your cities and add defenses), it's (imo) a better expansion than Seafarers (adds ships and water and potentially turns your 'continent' into 'islands'), but you can play both at the same time and they're both great.
Just as I said, good luck going back to the original, haha.

same here, the only place i play catan is at camp...and im dying to play it the rest of the year...someone should totally start one, even if its unofficial...there are also a bunch of catan like games which ive played over the past year which are just as epic..but i forgot their names ><
