From personal experience i know that smoking shisha/hookah/nargila is something practiced in the eastern culture. Smoking it is also a very social activity, so I was just wondering whether it is practiced at mac or not.

It is; there were guys in my residence building who had a hookah. They would use the different flavoured tobaccos and whatnot.

However, I should add that you're not allowed to smoke in residence. To do so breaks the Residence Code of Conduct. You must smoke in the smoking shelters outside of res.

Yep, every year I was at Mac someone always brought one. Seeing people smoke them outside of residence wasn't exactly frequent, but it happened often enough (especially in the West Quad/Matthews courtyard, in my experience). And yes, it is a very social activity, people always seemed to be having a great time doing it. You will most likely get approached by Mac security at first just so they can make sure it is, in fact, tobacco, but it's not an alien concept to them, so I wouldn't worry about it from that perspective (most of the officers are actually really great people, so long as you're not pompous/cocky/doing something clearly illegal).

its clearly a cultural thing, so people will allow it on campus. Just like they have pray space, etc.
