Should I take Math 1B03 instead of 1AA3?
Hi, I'm goin to be a first year life science student this september. Im taking Math 1LS3 in first term, and I'm debating if I should take Math 1B03 instead of Math 1AA3. Math 1B03 is recommeded for Level II programs such as Honours Biochem, Honours Bio, Honours Molecular Bio & Genetics etc.

I need some advice! Please and thankyou

First of all, you'll only be able to take Math 1AA3 if you achieve a grade of 10 or higher in Math 1LS3.

Secondly, Math 1AA3 and Math 1B03 are completely different. Math 1AA3 is continuation of calculus while Math 1B03 is linear algebra.

I couldn't find the recommendation to take 1B03 for those programs except Biochem.

Hey, thanks for the insight. Well I want to keep my options open, so which one would be more beneficial in your opinion?

Well, both are required for upper year math courses if that's what you are planning on doing. Otherwise, take whichever one interests you most.

Hmmm...well I'm debating between three Level II programs: Honours Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour (Music Cognition) and also Honours Biochemistry and Honours Molecular Biology & Genetics. Since you're in Honours Molecular Biology and Genetics, what were your math courses in first year if you don't mind ?

Math 1A03 is full, so I'm taking Math 1LS3 for now (if i maintain a grade 0f 10 or higher it will substitute for Math 1A03).

I took Math 1A03 and Math 1AA3. I only took it because I need a year of calculus for optometry though.

I would recommend you take Math 1A03 instead of 1LS3 if might be taking math 1AA3 later on. I took Math 1A03, 1AA3 and 1B03. And a friend of mine took Math 1LS3. Math 1A03 would much better prepare you for Math 1AA3. Math 1LS3 covers some of the same things as 1A03 but also some others that probably will not be very useful in 1AA3.
As for Math 1AA3 vs 1B03. Math 1B03 is recommended for a lot of second year programs including biochemistry. While Math 1AA3 would be needed to take a lot of the upper year math courses. So that depends on what you want to do later on. They're pretty much completely different things, so you could take both of them like I did.
Hope that helps.
