It's a new course, but I think it would be really beneficial! I took a similar non-credit course for resume-writing and co-op prep and I thought it was really useful. And being in first year, I think this would be really useful for you (it's only 6 hours of class!). If I were you, I'd definitely take it!
For more info about it:

Course Description

SOC SCI 1EL0 is a non-credit, tuition-free course that is noted on the official transcript.

SOC SCI 1EL0 presents activities to assist with the transition into university. Topics include learning strategies, academic planning, goal setting and career options. An introduction to campus and community resources is also covered.

Course Evaluation

SOC SCI 1EL0 will be recorded on your transcript as a PASS or as a FAIL grade. To receive a PASS in the course, you must:

attend a minimum of five of the six classes; and,
submit all required assignments to your facilitator on the final week of class. You may pick up your assignments from KTH 102 two weeks after the final class.

For more information, view the course outline.
