Special Dietary accommodation.
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this forum and I just had a quick question about special diets (like the titles suggests). I recently accepted my offer to McMaster for Life Science and was thinking about the meal plans and so forth. Anyways, I have celiac disease and so I can't eat gluten containing foods. And I was wondering if whether McMaster is able to accommodate a gluten-free diet and if so how? Any response would be helpful, thanks.

I would suggest putting that as an accomidation you'd need for res, that way you can be in apartment style and thus make your own food.

Most, if not all of the "starches" (save for fries and rice) will have some sort of wheat in them....which means you may not have that many options if you are not cooking for yourself. I think Bridges (the alternative lifestyle eatery (Vegan, Veg, Halal, Kosher) has some rice pasta, but to be honest I forget. I'm also kind of sketchy now on what foods do and do not contain glueten specifically.

I would suggest contacting Hospitality Services to see what exactly is available for you. I'm not sure how you want to contact them, so I'm just going to give you the link. It has various people to contact, and a few different ways. http://hospitality.mcmaster. ca/contact/contact.html

I'm pretty sure that East Meets West Bistro is very good with accomodating special diets, including gluten-free. Other than that, like lorend said, making your own food is probably the way to go.

Wow... If I have to cook for myself that would suck alot I do not know how to cook. I really hope that Bistro restaurant is able to make the gluten free food (PLEASE GOD). Oh and thanks for your replies.

I'm not talking elaborate meals when I say cook!

I think you can boil water and make pasta! And you will want the cooking option when you get sick of res food...trust me.

I have some dietary limitations too, and I found eating on campus frustrating at times. once i started cooking for myself I a) wasn't ill as often and b) wasn't so bored with my choices.

I can't remember which one exactly, but I remember one of my friends have that. She couldn't eat wheat products and she lived in residence. I can't remember which friend so I don't remember who to ask but I remember that she lived in North Quad (meaning she didn't live in Apartment style). So I think the school would definitely be able to accomodate you. I just don't know what foods there are. Sorry! I'll ask all my friends
