Stephen Harper coming to McMaster today
McMaster seems to be very quiet about this since there is no word in the Daily News section yet. Stephen Harper is coming to campus with 'an announcement' today and the media and protesters have already arrived. If you can, I'd come to campus today... looks like quite the show!

No one heard about it! I work in Mills, we found out this morning that he'd be coming later today. I think it was probably done that way to avoid a lot of the backlash that could have been organized.

Mac is known to be quite a Liberal campus. Like we saw with Igniatieff two years ago. Maybe Harper is trying to reconnect with the university turning it more 'conservative so to speak, since the liberals are not running things it ottawa.

Stephen Harper and the Conservatives shit on science, so he can take his appearance and stick it.

Here is a Spec article about it

http://www.thespec.com/news/local/ar...ip-cash-to-mac

So 6 students got $50,000 per year for 3 years? This is Canada - university doesn't cost that much. Wouldn't this scholarship be better spent split up to more people?

It's the Vanier Graduate Scholarship:

http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Student...erBESC_eng.asp

and it's value is 50,000. I'm fairly certain the money would be put towards funding research and not exclusively towards funding university studies.

I would think the more impressive thing, and perhaps the reason he came to mac was the fact that there were 6 recipients.

Oh okay. The Spec article makes it sound like each student would get like $50,000 cash/cheque per year.
