Switching Faculties
hi i'm not a mcmaster student yet because i haven't accepted my offer but i wanted to know if it was possible to switch faculties/ programs. i applied to humanities and got in even though i actually wanted to go into medical radiation sciences but i doubt i'd get into it since my calculus mark is low but anyways aside from this does anyone know if i'd be able to switch into medrad or nursing even???

It would be very difficult to switch from Humanities into one of the two since med rad and nursing have courses in first year that are exclusive to them and you can only take them if you're registered in the respective programs. If you don't end up getting accepted directly to either, then you would probably have to finish your first year in Humanities, and then upon review of your first year GPA they may possibly let you into med rad or nursing, but you'd start from level 1 again. So you might want to consider another school if you don't want to waste an entire year doing something you don't want to do.

wouldn't i be able to go to the head of the departments or whatever for nursing or med rad and ask them how i would be able to switch? like wouldn't i be able to take prerequisites needed to get into the program? (i don't mind wasting a year doing humanities lol)

Med rad and nursing have different first year requirements. You can only take the courses that are open to everyone such as calculus or biology (needed for med rad). But you won't be able to enrol in the others. Academic advisors from those faculties are not gonna make exceptions for you to take courses when you're not enrolled in the program.

that's not what i meant, what i'm trying to say is when you apply to programs you sometimes need specific high school prerequisites, so could i not take them in uni and then apply to medrad or nursing and start from first year in either program? people do that all the time i swear when they switch programs/ faculties lmao
