Switching from specialization to core?
I'm considering dropping my specialization for biochemistry and going for the core. How do I go about doing this? Can I do it at any time of the year or is there a specific timeline or something?

you can drop the courses the specialization requires and take what you want. but in about March go to the academic advisors office and say you want to change your program to the core instead of the specialization, they will "apply" you to that program and assuming you will have the minimum requirement you will be accepted after your final marks are released.

You can do it any time but sooner is better because there are also probably some student who want to switch into specialization (particularly for coop purposes), and you switching out opens up a space for them.
Courses are all the same in second year anyways, so it doesn't matter which stream you're in until third year.
