Textbook Chem 1A03/1AA3 help?
Hi, I'm already starting to look into buying textbooks for this coming Sept. for Life Sciences. I am about to purchase a 9th edition chemistry book for 1A03/1AA3, but I heard that the 10th edition is coming out this summer. Should I not get the 9th edition and wait for the 10th???

Usually first year books don't change content too much. However, you won't know if your prof will select the 10th edition, the 9th edition or both. If they decide not to use the 9th edition, you will have to look through the book to find the relevant material. So it's your decision, I personally didn't even use a first year chem book.

pretty sure that 10th is already out... and that they used the 10th edition last year. The 9th is basically the same but some chapters are numbered differently. Usually the prof. will give a set of questions for both editions (I know they did last semester) for those people who have earlier editions of the text.

Also im assuming you are talking about the Petrucci Chemistry text.

If you are doing Mastering Chemistry, it works out cheaper just to buy the tenth edition.

As djrain said, 10th edition was out last year. The 9th and 10th edition are nearly identical. My friend had the 9th edition and she actually did better than me in chem :p, not that it matters which textbook you have!

If you have the 9th edition, there's just some pages that are switched around from the 10th edition. Just take half a day to borrow someone's 10 edition and figure out those changes yourself, so you don't get lost when profs tell you what pages to read. And usually the 1st year chem profs are really good at telling you what the differences are between the 9th and 10th edition
