Is there a treatment for canker sores?
I have been consistently having at least 3 canker sores in my mouth. The numbers get even greater during exam periods.

Has anyone come up with any way of dealing with this?
This time I got one on my uvula (I didn't know it was even possible..) and I can't even talk.

Just buy something that numbs it, they make a variety of gel like substances you can apply. Another good way to help is to take a wet cotton swab dipped in salt and place it on the sore and wait a minute, then rinse.

It's usually caused by a vitamin C deficiency. Eat some oranges or drink some orange juice.

In the mean time, if it's really bothering you, the most you can do is get some of this stuff over the counter at any pharmacy that basically freezes the sores so you don't notice them.

My mom's remedy works for me. Get a paper towel and wet it with hot water and apply it to the cankersore. It has to be really hot, but don't use boiling water or water hot enough to burn you. The heat relieves the pain and speeds up the healing process.

I used to get these all the time, so I've tried a few different things. The problem with canker sore treatments is that it's difficult objectively to determine what's effective and what isn't, since they'll always rise and fall parabolically given enough time. With that being said, the following products have my endorsement:

- Oral-B Amosan rinse: I just Googled it and apparently it's discontinued, but the active ingredient is just hydrogen peroxide. Treats the issue at its source, as it's antibiotic.
- Zilactin-B gel: shields the sore, allowing you to eat and drink without being interrupted. Kind of an end-of-pipe solution so I'm not sure how well it helps the sore heal, but it works wonders if the pain's really bothering you.
- Orajel: applied the same way as Zilactin-B, but it doesn't cover it as well. What I like about it though is that I noticed after a day or two of application, I can kind of swab out the gel/dead skin combination, and that seems to actually help it heal.

It probably goes without saying, but practicing proper oral hygiene always helps too. I've noticed that if I go an entire day without brushing my teeth, there's a 10-20% chance to develop a canker sore in that week.

you can try hydrogen peroxide which is a disinfectant. obviously dont swallow it. you can either take a little, add it to water and rinse your mouth, or use a q-tip and apply only to the sores.
you can buy 3% hydrogen peroxide most stores.
hope that helps

Head to Student Wellness, they can give you a prescription for oral cortisone. Heals them up in a snap.

I like that when you said "heat" I knew that you meant the kind of heat that Asian grandmas believe in.

SALT WATER! You can use table salt or sea salt with warm water....gargle or keep it in your mouth for at least 30 seconds....do this 3-5 times a day until its gone.
You can also try Tea Tree Oil. It is a natural anti-fungal/cleansing tonic. It may burn a little at first but it numbs the area afterwards and will HEAL it!
