Virgin Festival VS Orientation
Hey guys

I'm an exchange student coming to McMaster for the upcoming Fall Semester. There's a full-day international students orientation thing on the Saturday of the first weekend of term. However, Virgin Festival is on that weekend too.

Should I go to the orientation or skip it and go to Virgin Festival? Should I go to Virgin Festival at all, considering that it's going to be the first weekend of semester? Is there usually a lot going on during that weekend for people living in res?

Thanks!

Mim

First weekend of term = weekend of August 30th? Or the weekend of September 6th?

If it is the former, there is a possability you won't even be moved in yet. Depending on which residence you get accepted into you may not be moving in until August 31st.

Both weekends have a lot of activities for new students, as they are during Welcome Week. So it allows you to get to know new international students, as well as students in your own res, AND upper-year students too. BUT missing one day out of seven or eight won't completely prohibit you from meeting new people. However, starting from the first day of res you start making friends...for myself the people I met on the first day I'm still friends with now.

So...in short...it's all up to you.

V-Fest '08 in Toronto is the 6th/7th right?

GO on the assumption that you will not want to see the Saturday band.

V-Fest = not so great.

At least in my later experience. Even with GREAT acts....meh. Warped and Rogers Picnic are where it's at.

I know I should be endorsing Mac and all but have you paid for V-Fest yet? It's like $120 for one freakin day buddy. But can $120 match the friends you could meet that night/day at Mac?

Haha, I'm glad. But seriously, if you've been dying to go to V-Fest and such, I would go with that, especially if certain bands are coming that you really wanted to go and such.

Well I only considered V-Fest because its the only music festival I've heard of being held in Toronto, past lineups look awesome and this year's isn't looking too bad either. What exactly is wrong with it? And what are Rogers Picnic and Warped like in comparison?

Edgefest and Warped Tour are at Downsview this year...

I miss the avenue formally known as Molson Park. A lot. Except for the dust..
