Wait Until September to get an Apartment?
Hi everyone

So I know that most leases in Hamilton start in May, but here is the issue. My boyfriend is moving from across the country to come live with me in Hamilton next year, and he is unable to sign a lease for an apartment because every landlord I've talked to needs both of us in person. I don't exactly want to sign the lease by myself in case anything does go wrong. I was wondering if it is such a bad idea to wait for August when both of us can sign the lease together. Will all apartments near the school be gone by then? I highly doubt we will break up - but its best to be prepared not to be stuck with a lease by yourself, but then again, I don't want to be stuck with an apartment far from the school. I found the perfect apartment that I want, but I don't know what to do. Have any of you waited until August/September to sign a lease?

Thank you

i signed my lease in august for my apartment. a lot of people look for houses for 4+ people, so they need to look early to get a good house and have to sign for may 1 to secure that house. its easier to find an apartment for 2 people, as most apartments have residents moving in and out at any time of year (cause theyre not majority students). it could be difficult and a bit stressful, and you mayyyyy not get the exact apartment you want, but thats a risk youll have to take. when I was looking i had a bunch of apartments in mind, then narrowed it down to 2 that i liked, and i was monitoring them through the summer to see if they had openings. one apartment we missed out on cause we werent fast enough to sign the lease, but the one were in now worked out perfectly. it is a bit risky, but if worse comes to worst youll just have to get an apartment that isnt 100% what you want. theres a bunch of apartments around mac too so you shouldnt be too far from school. personally i wouldnt wait until september though, id be too afraid i wouldnt find anything but that doesnt mean you wouldnt be able to find something
