Oh my innuendo...

As others have mentioned, there isn't really any point in washing meat that you are cooking thoroughly, as the bacteria will die.

Plus, washing isn't meant to kill bacteria, it's meant to get rid of the smell. For example, you should always wash fish to get rid of the fishy smell if it's been sitting in your fridge a couple days.

Invest in a probe thermometer if you're concerned about bacteria. Only thing is don't skimp on the one you buy, half of them are next to useless.

oh god, my mom's so **** about this.

Any type of meat she prepares, she soaks it in water with some crazy grapefruit seed extract stuff that supposedly kills all the bacteria after thoroughly washing it.

No salmonella for mee
