That wasn't a faculty bashing post, it was an example. Not quite sure how you got that from my post, but it was NOT meant that way.

I think it would come across that way to most. I mean, would you ever say, a humanities student dropping into health sci? No, you probably wouldn't.

I think it's all pointless...everyone who's at the gym goes to better themselves, whether they're a stellar athlete or a quote unquote 'nubcake.'
So I dunno, it seems silly to me that there's even a study to support the idea. I don't think tank tops are a bad thing when working out (where else would you wear a tank top???) And besides, it's not like I can't tell who's jacked just because they're wearing sleeves.
But of course I know, I'm not going to be running around topless because it'll gross people out. (With the 'power' to wear whatever you want comes great responsibility. lol) Rules like this really are in place just because people don't use their better judgment.

you are forgetting that many people have body issues. some arent comfortable going to the gym and seeing people with much better bodies. the study proved that (I did not read the study, Im just guessing).

We're not allowed to wear tank tops?? I only own tank tops. I'm gonna have to go to Walmart and buy a bunch of t-shirts to work out in. >:[

This is most certainly true. However, not having people in tank tops will not cure these peoples' body issues. Like I mentioned in my post, you can tell who's buff even if they're wearing sleeves.
People with poor body image (unfortunately) won't be comfortable in a public place like the gym unless it's empty. That's why they sell home-gyms, treadmills, etc. for personal use, and that's why many people prefer 24-hour gyms and working out at like 3 am.
EDIT: In other words, I'm saying (it's my understanding that) the study says "People are uncomfortable around people with big muscles in tank tops."
It does not say "People are more comfortable around people with big muscles in T-Shirts."

Or you could do what I do. Not work out
That really has nothing to do with dress codes though, and everything to do with me being lazy.

I noticed this too and ignored it. I tend to ignore all the humanities/social science bashing whenever I see or hear it nowadays.

I think some people are missing the point of what this topic was about. Guy or girl, no one wants someones sweaty nether regions smothering the equipment before you use it. I always wipe down the equipment before and after I use it, as should everyone else since it is.. an unwritten rule or a "courtesy" thing. Whether you wear short shorts, tank tops or whatever, be cleanly, be respectful, and basically mind your own buisness lol.
Not trying to be rude, but like other people were saying, you're going to the gym for yourself, for your own goals, not to worry about what people are wearing or aren't wearing. Some people are jacked, some are skinny, some are overweight, but no matter what you are everyone can follow simple rules to make everyones workout experience a better one. Just be respectful, wipe down the equipment when you're done, and try to keep your luggage inside your shorts .
PS. Eat Big, Get Big
