Haha alright alright, let's not pass any prejudgements on York especially since most if not all of us haven't even attended York before.
Honestly, it just blows that the students have to suffer for it. That's basically a year of their life wasted, not to mention thousands of dollars.

Actually, sometimes I wish I had gone to York simply because they offer a program that would have allowed me to do my teaching licence alongside my undergrad, thus giving me more experience. On the other hand... I didn't really like their undergrad program.
On the topic of the strike though, I have 3 friends who go to York and they're pretty worried that they're screwed. Only one of them was able to start working full time so at least he's making money in the mean time.
If you guys are interested in hearing some opinions of York U students themselves here's one of many Facebook Groups

I feel so bad for students who are supposed to be graduating this year from York. Also, with so many people losing jobs right now it's a lot harder to find one as well. Now York students are probably all looking for jobs with the several others that have lost theirs. this is terriblee!

McMaster's TAs are part of CUPE's 2010 strike plan and McMaster gave them a short contract this year.
Sadly, this is only a preview of things to come.

I'm hearing a lot of potential university students in Ontario who are looking out of province to avoid the 2010 strike.
It will be interesting to see how applications numbers look when they are realized for the Atlantic provinces. I expect Ontario universities will still get applications, but many students will only do so to cover all their options.

Can someone explain what happened with York? I know they were on strike for a while - but that's it.
When did the strike start? Did it end yet? Who is striking? Are they going back to school in January? Do they have to take the term 1 courses over again? Do they get their tuition given back to them for the time they missed?
I'm really out of the loop here! Thanks!

A lot of the questions you're asking are at the start of this thread.
And they're still on strike (have been since November I believe), but negotiations are apparently going to re-start.
