Sports teams/clubs for those with no experience?
Are there any sports teams or clubs for entering students who don't have any previous experience in those sports? I noticed that option is available for the Mac Rowing team, but what other ones are there? Thanks!

The varsity fencing team runs beginner classes in the fall. No experience required, and all equipment is provided! The course runs on Mondays from 8-10pm for 8 weeks. I believe it costs about $100. Once you've finished the course, it is possible to transition to the varsity team. I took the beginner class in first year and kept going with varsity after - I'm starting my fourth year on the team.

We'll have a table at Clubsfest - we should have some foil demonstrations on the lawn at that time, with possible epee demos and maybe (probably not ) sabre. I believe our free demo night will be on Monday, September 8th in either the Smith or East Aux. gym (IWC basement).

Feel free to PM me if you want more info!!

Dang, I wish I knew about this sooner or even thought about checking before my final year :(. I'll try to remember to stop by and visit at Clubsfest.

You think joining a team of some sort would be a great way to lose weight?

I'd gladly join a team just for that reason.

Definitely stop by! Most people start in their first or second year, but there are always a few fourth years.

For sure. Practices are only two nights a week (one night for the beginner class), but I hadn't done any sports since grade nine. I lost 10 pounds in first year.
