18 credits a term?
With the cources I have selected I've ended up with 18 credits for term two. I can't change any courses to term one because everything is full. Is this okay? I read that 15 credits per term is the maximum. I dont really want 6 courses in one term anyways.

If SOLAR let you select them and complete the payment agreement then there is no real problem with them.

The big problem will be the workload. See if you can take some of those courses during the summer (as in check to see if they have been offered, chances are they will be offered next summer too if they were this summer).

SOLAR will let you pick more than you're supposed to. The key is that you need to balance it yourself and make sure you only have 15 units max in each semester. So that means you're going to have to drop a course that you have in your 18 unit semester.

Seriously? So it only checks prerequisites? It seems like a very bloated and cranky system for something that just needs to check if I took 1A03 before 1AA3

I had to overload one semester and take 6 courses, and SOLAR let me do it, no problem...now, prior to this I had discussed it with the Associate Dean's office, so I don't know if they authorized it on the system or something, but it worked for me. You may want to give the Registrar's office a call tomorrow and ask.

hey. i overloaded this year in term 2 too! and of course, solar lets you!
if it is required courses, its werid how they have it set that way, they would usually have it so you have it evenly. it only happened to me cause i wanted to take this course, so i decided it was worth it. contact your academic advisor about this and see if they can do anything about it.

but for sure, workload is alot more! and you have to constantly try to keep up with everything, which really didnt' happen for me. you'd have to study really hard, etc. i had 26 hours of classes each week. it is hectic. i wouldn't really recommend it. i have learned from my lession

Im a first year engineering student and after picking my courses and electives ive ended up with 18.5 units each semester.

Does the 15 unit maximum apply to engineering students, or is it different for us?

my courses are:

Chem 1E03
Econ 1B03
Engineer 1A00
Engineer 1C03
Engineer 1D04
Engineer 1P03
Math 1ZZ5
Math 1Z04
Matls 1M03
Physics 1D03
Physics 1E03
Psych 1X03

Psych and Econ are my electives rest are required

i think its definately different for engineers. my friends in engineers have like 5-7 courses a term. if you following the undergraduate calendar and that's what you get.. then that is what you have to take. good luck with school!

akshay313, that's the normal course load for first year engineering. We have more than the 15 unit maximum.

Yes, Engineers may have a bigger course load so the 15/semester rule doesn't apply.

This is why SOLAR allows you, because technically you could take more. As long as you're meeting your first year requirements from the Course Calendar then you're on the right track. But try your best to balance them out as evenly as possible!
